Who are we?
Evidence-based health care is a combination of best research evidence, the expertise of the healthcare provider, and patient values.
The Cochrane Consumer Network is made up of fellow consumers who are committed
to the philosophies of The Cochrane Collaboration and the importance of consumer
participation in informed healthcare decision-making processes.
How we can help you
We can link you with people who share your interests and connect you to the
Cochrane groups that work in the areas of health care that concern you most.
About our e-mailing list
A moderated e-mail address enables contact between consumers and others who
are actively involved with consumer participation within The Cochrane Collaboration.
Calls are made through this list for consumers to comment on Cochrane reviews; This is an effective way to communicate with consumers.
To participate, send mail to our contact e-mail address: ccnet-contact@cochrane.de

Purpose
The World Health Organization (1978) states: The people have the right
and duty to participate individually and collectively in the planning
and implementation
of their health care.
Our core function is to provide consumer input into developing Cochrane
systematic reviews of best evidence in health care and in utilising this
evidence.
The purpose of this web site is to tell you about The Cochrane
Collaboration and how we receivers and users of health care, parents and
carers can benefit from its work. Consumers participate in preparing and
ensuring the
accessibility of systematic reviews of the effects of healthcare interventions.
We are invited to work collaboratively, consumers, healthcare providers
and researchers in some fifty areas of disease based health care to develop
evidence
to guide
well-informed decisions about health care.
This is a site by and for consumers.
It was initially made possible through the efforts of Claire Glenton
and the Nordic Cochrane Centre, with valuable help from consumers and other
members of
The Cochrane Collaboration including Janet Wale (Australia), Gill Gyte
(UK), Dell Horey (Australia) and Eva Buschmann (Norway). Guidelines on
consumer
participation by Hilda Bastian, Sandy Oliver and Caroline Selai provided
some of the background materials used
in the preparation of this web site.
Addition of materials has been achieved
through Commonwealth of Australia funding to support Cochrane activities
in Australia.
Amy Zelmer and Maryann Napoli worked tirelessly to proofread and check
the
accessibility of the information.
