Several Cochrane Reviews have assessed the benefits and harms of interventions used to prevent and treat respiratory viruses, including the viruses that cause influenza. They are aimed at helping the public and healthcare professionals make shared decisions, and to promote the use of effective interventions.
- Preventive interventions include physical interventions (such as hand washing, using masks, using gloves, and isolating people with influenza) and vaccines.
- Treatments include using drugs (including Tamiflu (a neuraminidase inhibitor) and other interventions to help people get better, such as drinking extra fluids or using complementary and alternative medicines.
This Resource includes Cochrane Reviews (in English and also with summaries or full reviews in Spanish and German) and podcasts summarizing the reviews. The ‘Cochrane in the news’ page features news articles or television reports that have included references to Cochrane Reviews.
