Sender: Claire Allen [CAllen@cochrane.org] Subject: Announcement of TSC representative for the CCSG Ruth Foxlee, Trials Search Co-ordinator of the Wounds Review Group based in the UK, will be immediately joining the Steering Group in the position of TSC representative. Ruth was the only person nominated for the position of TSC representative on the Steering Group. She replaces Dymphna Hermans and her term of office will cease in October 2009, when Dymphna's term of office would have ended. The Steering Group has very much appreciated Dymphna's input during her time as a member, and will miss her. Congratulations to Ruth! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX B. Sender: Professor David James Stott [djs1w@clinmed.gla.ac.uk] Subject: Organisational changes in the Health Care of Older People Field I would like to give my thanks to Gil Ramirez for all his hard work over the past 18 months as field coordinator, in re-establishing the Health Care of Older People Field. Gil has had to relinquish this role following his move to a new high-profile senior post at the Charles R Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles. Although Gil has had to step down as field coordinator I am delighted that he remains very much involved in the work of the field as a member of the core organising group. I am delighted to take on the role of Field Coordinator, and look forwards to the challenges of promoting the interests of older people within Cochrane. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX C. Sender: Elizabeth Lissiman [elissima@bond.edu.au] Subject: Complementary and alternative medicine funding opportunity The Australian Minister for Health and Ageing has recently announced a new $5 million funding initiative through the NHMRC for researchers investigating the use and effectiveness of complementary and alternative medicines. The scope of this call encompasses research on a diverse group of health-related substances, therapies and disciplines that are not considered to be part of mainstream medical care in Australia. These include herbal medicine, vitamin and mineral supplements, nutritional supplements, traditional medical systems such as Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture and homeopathic medicine. Note that Chief Investigators must have Australian citizenship or Australian permanent resident status. The majority of the research project is to be undertaken within Australia. International partners may be included in teams but NHMRC will not fund their salaries. In addition, the NHMRC will only pay funds to an NHMRC registered Administering Institution. Deadline: Interested and eligible authors should prepare and submit applications before the closing date of 5.00pm AEST 30 March 2007. All authors with reviews assessing the efficacy of complementary and alternative medicines are encouraged to apply. To download the application form and for more information, please visit www.nhmrc.gov.au. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX D.
