Sender: Deborah Pentesco-Gilbert [dpentesc@wiley.co.uk] Subject: 2006 Module Submission Process Dear All, We would like to share with you changes to the ways in which your modules will be handled for publication next year. Wiley's contract with Update Software ends on 1 March 2006 and after that we will be taking over the complete publishing process of The Cochrane Library ourselves. The last issue Update Software will produce is 2006 issue 1, after that your communication about the production of your module should be entirely with Wiley. Your main contact at Wiley concerning content and feedback on your modules from 25 January 2006 will be: Ben Hickling, Project Editor, The Cochrane Library, Wiley, Chichester email: bhicklin@wiley.co.uk tel: +44 (0)1243 770676 Your contact concerning the delivery process is: Pauline Howarth, Content Systems, Wiley, Chichester email: phowarth@wiley.co.uk tel: +44 (0)1243 770522 Some changes are already taking place to the submission process with the introduction of Archie. Fifteen groups have successfully moved to RevMan4.3 and their modules delivered for publication directly to Update Software by Archie for 2005 issue 4. We anticipate that 41 Groups will be using Archie before the submission deadline for issue 2 next year (22 February 2006) and Archie will deliver their data directly to Wiley. We will be contacting the remaining nine groups individually to discuss the delivery of their modules to us. Information on Archie and the IMS can be obtained from: Monica Kjeldstrom email: m.kjeldstrom@cochrane.dk tel: +45 3545 7110 We intend to run the same quality checks that Update Software does on your modules and provide you with similar feedback and reports. Some of these reports will also be provided by Archie and eventually this system will take over the generation of routine submission reports, with Wiley providing feedback on errors and quality issues. Please feel free to contact me or Pauline Howarth by email or at the Colloquium with any questions. Sender: Mark Davies [Mark_Davies@health.qld.gov.au] Subject: Wiley production of The Cochrane Library CD ROM At it's meeting in April 2005 the Steering Group gave approval to Wiley to start the production of the Wiley version of The Cochrane Library CD ROM from Issue 4, 2005. Wiley's CD ROM version provides users with a new interface, to match the Wiley InterScience online version, with advanced searching as well as the ability to upload and transfer any saved searches used with the previous CD ROM versions. Technical and customer service help will be available both by email and by telephone to support all users in the transition to the new CD ROMs. With the launch of this new version of the CD ROM, we are inviting users to feedback on the CD ROM format and provide details on their needs and use of The Cochrane Library in a survey that will be enclosed with the Issue 4, 2005 CD ROM. The results of this survey will be used by the Publishing Policy Group and Steering Group to help identify our future development priorities. And finally, Wiley would like to express thanks to all those who participated in the testing of the new CD ROM especially the Trials Search Coordinators, Search Testing Group and Statistical Methods Group. A special thanks to Update Software for their original development and the continued production of the CD ROM over recent years. Sender: Peter Langhorne [pl11m@clinmed.gla.ac.uk] Subject: Change of Ombudsman Gill Gyte, Consumer Co-ordinator for the Pregnancy and Childbirth Group and Infectious Diseases Group, is relinquishing the responsibilities of Ombudsman after five years. I am most grateful to Gill for her contribution in this role. She has also done a huge amount of work in defining and developing the role. She also has developed materials in the area of conflict resolution, which will be available on the website in due course. I am pleased to report that Kathie Clark, former Co-Chair of the Steering Group and former Co-Director of the Canadian Cochrane Network and Centre, has kindly agreed to take over from Gill, and this appointment was recently approved by the Steering Group. I am looking forward to working with Kathie. As a reminder, the role of the Ombudsmen is to help resolve areas of conflict that arise between people or entities within The Cochrane Collaboration, for which the usual process of involving the Directors of the reference Cochrane Centre(s) has not been sufficient. Sender: Jessie McGowan [jmcgowan@uottawa.ca] Subject: EHTAS Consensus Development Forum at the Cochrane Colloquium EHTAS (Evaluating Health Technology Assessment Searches) Consensus Development Forum at the Cochrane Colloquium October 25, 2005 If you have done searches for systematic reviews or HTAs, we would like your opinions on the potential impact that various errors in the electronic search strategy can have on the search results, and on the development of a peer review forum that will be launched to evaluate searches in the initial stages of systematic reviews and HTAs. The EHTAS project is a research study to develop a quality assessment checklist for search strategies used in HTAs and systematic reviews and an expert forum to peer review these searches. The goal of the EHTAS project is to improve the quality of searches used in systematic reviews and health technology assessments. The importance of the search quality in an HTA is to ensure an accurate and complete evidence base is used. A validated process for evaluating the quality and completeness of the evidence base for systematic reviews, including HTA reports, does not currently exist. The lack of such a process, paired with a demonstrable level of error in reported searches, leaves this type of research open to debate over the quality of evidence on which the review is based. The three main parts of the project are a systematic review on the importance of various search errors, consensus development (using both a survey and a forum at the Cochrane Colloquium), and validation testing of the checklist. Finally, we will launch a peer review forum where searches can be evaluated before a systematic review or HTA is started. Please feel free to contact either of us, Jessie McGowan at jmcgowan@uottawa.ca or Margaret Sampson at msampson@cheo.on.ca, if you have questions about the Cochrane Consensus Forum or the EHTAS project. The EHTAS project is funded through a grant by CCOHTA (Canadian Coordinating Office for Health Technology Assessment). XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX H.
