Sender: Claire Allen [CAllen@cochrane.org] Subject: Cochrane Cancer Network - additional Convenors sought The Convenor of the Cancer Network (Mark Lodge) has been experiencing difficulties in finding funding for this Network effective immediately. He is willing to work with Co-Convenors to secure the long term future of the Network, if necessary, to transfer the registry that is in place and the other tasks of the Network. The Co-Convenors of the Monitoring and Registration Group are, therefore, requesting that anyone who may be interested in Co-Convening the Network contact them in the first instance (via callen@cochrane.org). The current scope of the Network covers: 'The organisation of cancer services and all aspects of the prevention and management of malignant disease, in all health care settings.' The current aims were documented in 1996 at the Exploratory Meeting of the proposed Cancer Network, which expressed the need for the establishment of a Network dealing with this topic. More information can be found about the Network in its module detailed on The Cochrane Library (www.mrw.interscience.wiley.com/cochrane/clabout/articles/CE000096/frame.html). We are grateful to Mark Lodge (current Convenor) for his work with the Network over the past nine years, and for his willingness to ensure an appropriate relationship with anyone wishing to assist him in convening the Network. With best wishes, Heather Maxwell and Rob Scholten Co-Convenors Monitoring and Registration Group XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX C. Sender: Megan Prictor [M.Prictor@latrobe.edu.au] Subject: Consumers and Communication Group invites suggestions for review topics The Consumers and Communication Group has a new web-page to invite suggestions for review topics which fall within our scope. The page, at www.latrobe.edu.au/cochrane/reviewideas.html, features an easy online form. We are hoping that people will let us know if they've identified a particular problem or failure in communication or information provision that could be addressed more effectively, or perhaps people have an interest in seeing a review completed on a particular intervention. Completion of the form is open to anyone - it does not in any way imply that the person wants to do the review themselves!! We welcome your topic suggestions! Thankyou Megan Prictor RGC, Cochrane Consumers and Communication Review Group www.latrobe.edu.au/cochrane Email: cochrane@latrobe.edu.au XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX D. Sender: Rachel Stancliffe [rstancliffe@update.co.uk] Subject: Biblioteca Cochrane Plus to be featured on major portal Update Software and the Ibero-American Cochrane Network have joined forces with BIREME - the major health information source for the whole of Latin America and the Caribbean - to provide access to La Biblioteca Cochrane Plus (BCP) via the Evidence portal of BIREME's Virtual Health Library (BVS). This will integrate products, services, news and events related to evidence to support the decision-making processes in health in Latin America and the Caribbean. Sender: Lisa Horwill [lhorwill@cochrane.co.uk] Subject: Announcing: UK Cochrane Centre - new website Dear all, We would like to announce that the UK Cochrane Centre has a new Website. This can be viewed at www.cochrane.co.uk This website is part of a pilot project to develop templates for use by Cochrane entities within the 'Cochrane Entity Website Builder'. This system is still being tested by several entities, and will be made available to all entities later in the coming year. For more information, you can contact Dave Booker and the Cochrane Web Team at web@cochrane.org. We hope that you will find the new website a useful resource and we would welcome any feedback or comments you may have. Best wishes Lisa Horwill and Dave Booker on behalf on the UK Cochrane Centre and the Cochrane Web Team XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX F. Sender: Dave Booker [booker@cochrane.de] Subject: Why is Cochrane.org using Google? You may have noticed that searches on www.cochrane.org now produce results 'powered by Google'. We've begun using an in-house Google brand search server in order to provide the best possible service to you. After more analysis of site visitor feedback and logs of the over 3,000 daily search requests, we have configured the server to give you improved results. If you have suggestions or problems, please don't hesitate to send us an email at web@cochrane.org. Dave Booker for the Cochrane Collaboration Web Team XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX G. Sender: Rebecca Simmons [RSimmons@bmjgroup.com] Subject: Clinical Evidence - Call for contributors Can we help you update your review? Clinical Evidence is a regularly updated evidence-based journal available worldwide both as a paper version and on the internet. Clinical Evidence needs to recruit a number of new contributors who are healthcare professionals or epidemiologists with experience in evidence-based medicine and the ability to write in a concise and structured way. Clinical Evidence authors have commented that working on Clinical Evidence is a useful stimulus to updating their Cochrane reviews. Areas for which we are currently seeking authors: • Hepatocellular carcinoma • Cruciate ligament knee injuries • Needle stick injuries • Oropharyngeal carcinoma • Secondary prevention of ischaemic cardiac events We are also looking for authors for other topics, so do not let this list discourage you. For full details please visit www.clinicalevidence.com/ceweb/contribute/index.jsp, or send your contact details and a copy of your CV, clearly stating the clinical area you are interested in, to CECommissioning@bmjgroup.com. Call for peer reviewers Clinical Evidence also needs to recruit a number of peer reviewers with an interest in the clinical areas stated above, and also others related to general practice. If you are interested in becoming a peer reviewer for Clinical Evidence, please complete the peer review questionnaire at www.clinicalevidence.com/ceweb/contribute/peerreviewer.jsp.
