Lorne Becker, Co-ordinator of the Cochrane Primary Health Care Field, and a member of the Steering Group and the Monitoring and Registration Group since 2004, will replace him. We are most grateful to Mark for his hard work as Co-Chair since April 2005, and to Lorne for being prepared to take over this responsibility in a few months' time. Jon Deeks has recently taken over major new responsibilities and will step down from the position of Treasurer in October, although he will remain on the Steering Group until October 2008 as Methods Group representative. We are very grateful to Jon for his input in the additional role of Treasurer, and to Donna Gillies, the Author representative on the Steering Group, who has undertaken to replace him in that role in October. Sender: Karin Hannes [Karin.Hannes@med.kuleuven.ac.be] Subject: Meta-synthesis of qualitative research: 2-day course The Belgian Branch of the Cochrane Collaboration and the Belgian Campbell Group present a new 2-day course program on Meta-synthesis of Qualitative Research. Participants will be introduced in the concept and background of systematic reviews, the international organisations that produce and disseminate reviews and the different frameworks to synthesise findings from qualitative research that can be used to inform practice and policy. They will practice the critical appraisal of qualitative research studies and learn to identify high quality, qualitative research reports. The extraction of data from reports that present qualitative research findings is included in the program. A software package that supports meta-synthesis of qualitative research will be introduced in a workshop. Participants have a possibility to subscribe to a group license to work the Qari and Notari software developed by JBI. At the end of the program participants will master the skills to synthesize findings from qualitative research, which will help them to complete systematic reviews. The course will be held in Leuven, Belgium, from 20-22 November 2006.
