Sender: Sara Bennett [BennettS@who.int] Subject: Call for proposals: Systematic review centres in low and middle income countries The Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research, in collaboration with the Oslo Satellite of the Cochrane Effective Practice and Organization of Care (EPOC) Group, the EPPI-Centre, Institute of Education, London, and the Effective Health Care Research Programme Consortium, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Liverpool, wishes to award grants to four institutions in low and middle income countries in order to: a. develop capacity in low and middle income countries (LMICs) for the conduct and packaging of systematic reviews of health policy and systems research relevant to these countries; b. conduct reviews within three main thematic areas; c. further develop methodologies relevant to systematic reviews of health policy and systems research in LMICs. Systematic reviews entail a systematic effort to identify, assess, and interpret the global pool of knowledge available to answer a focused question. Of the four Centres to which grants will be awarded, three will focus on systematic reviews within specific thematic areas. The three thematic areas are: a. Human resources for health b. Health financing c. Role of the non-state (private) sector One grant will be awarded to a Thematic Centre for each thematic area. The fourth grant will be awarded for the development of a Methodology Centre for systematic reviews of health policy and systems research in Low and Middle Income Countries.
