Sender: John MacDonald [jmacdon1@uwo.ca] Subject: Changes to IBD/FBD Group We would like to announce the retirement of John (Jack) WD McDonald as Co-ordinating Editor of the Cochrane Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Functional Bowel Disorders review group (effective 1 January 2007). He will continue as an editor. Jack began to organize the Cochrane IBD review group in 1994 and registered it with the Cochrane Collaboration in 1995. In 1998 he accepted a request from the Cochrane Collaboration to add functional bowel disorders to the scope of the group. Over the years he has made many contributions to Cochrane and evidence-based medicine in the field of gastroenterology. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Jack for his years of dedication and service and continued support of the IBD/FBD group. We wish Jack much health and happiness in his retirement and look forward to working with him in his continuing role as an editor for the Cochrane IBD/FBD group. We are pleased to announce that Brian Feagan will be taking over as co-ordinating editor of the Cochrane Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Functional Bowel Disorders review group (effective 1 January 2007). Brian, a long standing proponent of evidence-based medicine, is an internationally recognized expert in the therapy of inflammatory bowel disease and has been a lead investigator in the design and implementation of randomized controlled trials since 1986. He is currently Director of Robarts Clinical Trials at the Robarts Research Institute. Brian has previously served as both an author and editor (since 2004) for the IBD/FBD group. Oxford-Bath Clinical ENT 26 February 2007 - 2 March 2007 A comprehensive overview of the knowledge required of specialist trainees such as Specialist Registrars and Senior SHOs at the beginning of their specialist training. Topics covered are appropriate for year 1 and 2 in the syllabus of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Areas of controversy will be highlighted. The course is suitable for candidates preparing for the DOHNS examination. Key Concepts in Health Care for Homeless People May 2007 (10 weeks online) Gain a broad perspective on issues such as the causes and consequences of homelessness, different types of homelessness, the roles of statutory and non-statutory organisations in relieving homelessness, and the main clinical problems affecting people experiencing homelessness. This is the first module of a Postgraduate Certificate in the Provision of Health Care to People Experiencing Homelessness, a first in the UK and possibly Europe. Evidence Based Dentistry 14-18 May 2007 Oxford University is offering a 2-day introductory course or a longer 5-day course in Evidence Based Dentistry. The course has been developed specifically for dentists and other oral healthcare professionals who either want an introduction to evidence based dentistry or a more comprehensive course. The course aims to help dentists and oral health care professionals develop their understanding of the evidence-based approach and become more efficient at using the best available evidence in their clinical and policy decisions.
