Sender: Nick Royle [NRoyle@cochrane.org] Subject: Petition to fund Europe-wide citizen access to The Cochrane Library For those of us lucky enough to live or work in countries or institutions with funded access to The Cochrane Library, it's easy to forget that half of the world's population still doesn't have free access to this unique and powerful tool for change. It's only when we travel further afield and try to log on that we discover the frustration of having no access. Some very kind people have decided to petition the European Commission to fund Europe-wide citizen access (national provision) to The Cochrane Library. An electronic petition is available at http://cochrane.epetitions.net from 6 December to 21 March, 2008. Please encourage your contacts in EU countries to sign the petition and pass the link on to a friend or colleague, and/or to put a link on their website to this petition. Banners for websites are available, as well as a proposed logo of EU Provision (see examples at www.aotm.gov.pl, www.aotm.gov.pl/konkurs, www.aotm.gov.pl/cochrane). A credit-card size leaflet has also been developed - on one side it has information about the petition, on the other, information about the National Provision to The Cochrane Library in Poland and the competition “Evidence? Yes, I use it”. Email Norbert Wilk at n.wilk@aotm.gov.pl to request files of the banners or leaflet. Please, forward this email or use the option “Tell a friend” on the petition website http://cochrane.epetitions.net, when you have signed the petition. We look forward to your active involvement in this initiative. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX B.
