About us:

Cochrane Evidence Synthesis Unit (CESU) Iberoamerica consists of a consortium of Centres with a proven track record spanning over 20 years in developing clinical practice guidelines and evidence synthesis products. This includes systematic reviews, overviews of systematic reviews, rapid reviews and scoping reviews, among others. During that time, our experts have assessed the efficacy and safety of both individual health interventions and public health strategies, the accuracy of diagnostic tests, and the prognosis and risk factors of specific health conditions, involving the values and preferences of patients and other stakeholders.

Some of these reviews have been published as Cochrane reviews in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and other indexed biomedical journals. Our CESU includes the following six Cochrane Associate Centres within the Iberoamerican Cochrane Network, which possess a stable structure and strong capacity and experience to carry out evidence synthesis on a regular basis:

  1. Cochrane Madrid (Spain)
  2. Instituto de Efectividad Clínica y Sanitaria (IECS) (Argentina)
  3. Universidad del Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires (Argentina)
  4. Evidencia UC at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (Chile)
  5. Associate Cochrane Centre of the Universidad de Valparaíso (Chile)
  6. Centro Cochrane Iberoamericano (CCIb) (Spain).
  7. Epistemonikos Foundation

Additionally, our CESU includes three partners: Cochrane Netherlands, and Cochrane Switzerland.

Experience and expertise:

Methods: Our unit excels in methodological and statistical expertise, particularly in systematic reviews of intervention effects, diagnostic test accuracy, prognostic factors and models, and condition prevalence. Our team is skilled in conducting network meta-analyses, scoping reviews, overviews, and qualitative reviews. We have also developed and implemented innovative methods for prognostic studies, overviews, network meta-analyses, and qualitative syntheses.

Topic Coverage: CESU Iberoamérica is multidisciplinary and comprehensive, capable of addressing any clinical and public health topics. We will particularly focus on prevalent health issues in low- and middle-income countries in the Americas. This includes tackling significant but often neglected health problems and addressing health inequities and disparities in the region.

Wider Networks: All core sub-units of CESU Iberoamérica are part of the Iberoamerican Cochrane Network, contributing expertise and disseminating evidence, especially relevant to low- and middle-income countries

Our partners:

Our Unit partners with Cochrane Netherlands, and Cochrane Switzerland, broaden our topic coverage for delivering high-quality evidence synthesis products. Many members are also part of Cochrane Thematic Groups, GRADE, and the Guidelines International Network (GIN).
